Foz do Arelho nearby Obidos is the most beautiful lagoon and one of the most famous spots in Portugal: a large lagoon with wide beach surrounded by cliffs. There is no specific danger when riding inside the lagoon. Naturally it is suitable only by high tide.
There are two zones adequate for kitesurfing: the estuary near the sea and nearby the beach restaurants of Foz do Arelho and the inner lagoon nearby Bom Successo.
The estuary works in autumn, winter and fall, unfortunately kitesurf is restricted in summer. The dates usually authorised for kitesurfing are from 15th September to 15th June.
The inner lagoon is authorised for kitesurfing all year long, but the wind is usually not as good.

Foz do Arelho is a great flat water spot for freestyle and it will work with the usual North and North-west winds.
The water temperature is good until November with a wetsuit.
Best wind conditions are North-west and west winds.
It is possible to ride on the sea side but it is rough and not ideal.
There is a kitesurf school in Foz do Arelho but it is located deep inside the lagoon and on the other side of the village: the wind conditions are better nearby the restaurants and the sea.
Access to the beach is easy from the parking location.
There are no showers.
There are no lifeguards on the beach.
Be cautious and know your basic safety. Preferably go out with a group.
