Praia dos Moinhos

The nicest beach facing Lisbon

Posted  on November 14th, 2021

Praia dos Moinhos is a nice river beach facing Lisbon and the beautiful Vasco de Gama bridge. It is just 35 minutes drive from Lisbon. You can ride by high tide only, and prefer high coefficients or you will get stuck and cut your feet with the numerous oysters which locals come to pick up by low tide and also get very muddy. This spot works with most wind directions from North-east to West.

Alcochete works all year and the water temperature is good until November with a wetsuit.

Best wind conditions are West and North West winds although it also works with North and North-East. West can get strong as the wind converges in the river mouth and you will usually have nicer flat water compared to the more usual North winds.

There is no shop but you can take courses with Albano of Alkitesurf. He is certainly one of the most friendly kite instructor in Portugal.

Access to the beach is easy and the parking is located right in front of the kitesurf zone.

There are no showers available.

There are no lifeguards on the beach. But usually there are many locals and members of the local association Aktivo.

Be cautious and know your basic safety. Preferably go out with a group.
